Ask Ardith: Mother's Day Floral Cake

Supplies:
1 Smithers Oasis cake foam or 6” cake foam
Fresh water with flower food
Plate
4 pieces of 22 gauge wire cut in 6” lengths
1 yard decorative ribbon

Fresh Product:
6 stems of rosemary
3 stems hypericum berries
6 ranunculus flowers with buds

Instructions:
1. Soak cake foam in fresh water with flower food.
2. Place foam cake form on design surface.
3. Cut 6” lengths of 22 gauge wire, bend the wire in half to form a hairpin shape.
4. Cut rosemary to 6” lengths. One stem may make 4 or 5 pieces. They do not have to be exact as you will trim them.
5. Lay a stem of rosemary on the side of the cake form, hairpin the stem over the stem and into the foam. Cover the cake form. Trim to shape.
6. Set on cake plate, cut small berries from the hypericum branch, and scatter berries around base of design. (You may use other flowers or greens for this, fresh or permanent botanical).
7. Insert chosen flowers to cover the top.
8. Add candles, stems, and additional decorations to personalize the design.
9. To water set in the sink, lightly spray the top of the cake with warm/to cool water, let drain and enjoy.

This design will last a couple of weeks, at least.
