COLOR: The Unspoken Language
Understanding Orange

Fill your mind with orange. You could be a speck standing on the surface of a giant orange. Or perhaps you close your eyes, then open them seeing all the world is orange. Let’s learn more about this amazing color. If orange is your favorite color, you may be a courageous person who shows enthusiasm in everything you do. Orange is a secondary color, and is a “warm” color like it’s parents, red and yellow. Orange is the color of assimilation, of testing and judging -leading to acceptance or rejection. Orange represents a warm heart and friendship. Orange is helpful to breakdown barriers and remove obstacles. Orange can help turbulent feelings be resolved, a benefit of it’s yellow component. Sounds like orange could be a good office color, or an effective color for a business where employees don’t always get along.

Being surrounded by orange can broaden your perspective. It gives courage to make changes and accept the outcome. People strongly influenced by orange will never leave an unsatisfactory situation unresolved. For this reason orange is a revolutionary color. Those that love orange have the persistence to see projects through to a successful conclusion. Here are some other words that represent orange: longevity, happiness, bliss, energetic, tender, persistent, creativity, enjoyment, desire, brave, leadership, generous, and proud.
Orange symbolizes the sunset. In Egyptian tradition and Jewish mysticism, orange represents splendor. In astrology, orange has an affinity with the sign of Leo, the Lion. Orange and Leo both have a kindly nature, with motives that are generally good. Leos and those who love orange tend to be very compassionate and good with children. In Feng Shui, orange also carries an association with the lion. This symbolism includes the tiger and horse, which are lucky for those who love orange. The compass direction associated with orange is the Northwest. This is a creative position for those who take up leadership and responsibility. It is also a sign of nobility. In color therapy, orange helps remove psychological blockages. Bereavement and a sense of loss can be alleviated with the warm, comforting color orange. Orange imparts emotional strength, thus helping withstand hardships. Feeling held in fear can be soothed with orange. Remember orange helps move to a positive conclusion? Orange can help alleviate phobias and panic attacks.
With the body, orange relates to the lower intestines. Since orange helps move things forward and overcome blockages, it can help the digestive system. Orange can aid the healing process of deep muscle aches, broken bones and torn ligaments. It is also beneficial for breathing problems like asthma and bronchitis. When I am tired or run down, I find myself reaching for orange food. Orange foods are rich in enzymes that encourage a healthy appetite and assist digestion. They are filled with vitamins that provide more energy, and help strengthen the immune system. Citrus fruits are high in antioxidant vitamin C, and can help reduce blood cholesterol and strengthen blood capillaries. Carrots contain antioxidants and are high in soluble fiber. The also can help protect the body against lung cancer.
This vibrant color can work well for florists. Sending orange flowers can help with bereavement, feeling stuck and powerless, or having indigestive problems. Of course they work well with weddings, parties, corporate events, and it is a color for both men and women, and the young and old alike. Now with a better understanding of orange, you can use if more specifically to fit the needs of your clients. Some orange flowers are: calla lily, carnations, mums, daffodils, dahlias, eremurus, gerberas, glads, hypericum, lilies, orchids, poppies, rananculus, roses, snap dragons, tulips, yarrow and zinnias.
