UK Flower and Plant Association
Flower Council of Holland
Botanical Name:
Zantedeschia. Pronounced zanter-DESK-ya or zanter-DEE-sha, but commonly known as calla or arum lilies which are much easier to say! Calla was the old Victorian name for them before they were renamed Zantedeschia.
Colour:
Available all year round in shades of pinks, pale creams, and flesh tones, purple-black, yellow and terracotta oranges.
Varieties:
White arums are very popular with style gurus for their sculptural elegant shape. Their richly coloured relatives are becoming better known, they have smaller, more elegant flower shape and lend themselves more easily to mixing with other flowers.
Availability:
All year round.
Storage Conditions:
Store at 4-8°c - harmful if consumed - cut flower food recommended
Consumer Life:
They last around two weeks.
Additional Information:
The petals are fleshy and very easily bruised, take care when transporting or arranging them. Although this flower can withstand drought, storage in water is recommended. Use a dark vase or tape to stop stems from curling back on themselves. Use special food for bulbs and replace water regularly. The stems are extremely versatile and, when dry, can easily be bent making them ideal for corsages.
