In an ever competitive marketplace, we must implement strategies that will raise the bar in our industry and separate our products and services from those offered by our competitors. I’ve started to notice a great buzz about organic flowers, their increasing supply and demand, as well as certification processes that measure the quality of product, production practices and transportation (cold chain management) management. Product offerings and Programs like these will raise the bar. By educating ourselves on these issues, we can knowledgeably seek sourcing of certified or organic products, better distribution and transportation methods. The results will be longer lasting product in the hands of our customers and more perceived value. Spring is a time for cleaning. This issue includes recommended cleaning schedules to reduce bacteria and ethylene in the shop. Shop Cleanliness also can affect the longevity or life of our product.
Implementation of “clean” practices will add value to our product. Implementing and practicing “Sales Techniques” can capture an otherwise lost sale, increase our average order, and build the professional image of our shops. Education is another opportunity for us to increase our professional advantage, build and develop skills, again raising the bar. Included in this issue is the Impressive Education Schedule for the 2007 AIFD National Symposium. Talk about separating yourselves from the competition. May we be realistic about where we currently stand, and focus on a stronger future, implementing practices and procedures that will help us reach our goals?
